Ada Lovelace Day (ALD) is an international celebration of the achievements of women in science, technology, engineering, and maths (STEM). It aims to increase the profile of women in STEM and, in doing so, create new role models who will encourage more girls into STEM careers and support women already working in STEM.
Cape Ann Enterprises is celebrating this day the fourth year in a row, and just like last year, we are celebrating it online by providing learning resources on this website that will be available to all visitors. This blog section combines resources from 2020 and 2021, with the hope that next year, we will be able to welcome our guests in our office to celebrate Ada Lovelace Day 2022.

In the past, we welcomed the visitors, mostly high school and college students, in our offices, and presented them with the first-hand experience of what it looks and feels like to work at an IT company.

If you are interested in how we celebrated Ada Lovelace day in 2018 and 2019, click here to go to our Blog section.

This year, we welcome you to check our presentations and the website that will give you an insight into the life of a developer in one of the IT companies. You can also read a great interview with our colleagues Jasmina and Azra about women in IT if you click HERE.

Our presentations are created by our team of extraordinary and successful women that we are very proud of. Among technical knowledge presentations, you will find some that are dedicated to sharing experience and encouraging girls and women to find their way in the IT business, if that is their dream. Ada Lovelace Day is an event that helps us motivate the female population to step into the world of computer science, and Cape Ann Enterprises is more than happy to help and encourage young women whose dream is to become software developers. We understand that prejudices are affecting their decision to build their careers in other businesses, and we consider it our job to prove the opposite by acting.

Successful Women in IT

I choose computer science as my profession because it is cool, awesome and really rewarding personally and professionally. We can do really amazing, fun and impressive stuff involved in literally any field of human knowledge and activities. Software is created for math, physics, chemistry, finances, geography, music, video editing, personal relationships. Computer science makes you think about very abstract concepts and processes and I think helps you develop your intelligence and develops in you a new way of understanding the world.

There are many reasons to choose an occupation and make a career decision. I was first driven by a love of programming when I had to choose an occupation. At the time it seemed like the most interesting subject on FET, and today I feel like I wasn’t wrong. Software engineering is a job that (at least to me) is never boring. It offers us many options for development and learning. It is one of the highest-paid occupations in the world, and employment opportunities are open to us in our country and elsewhere in the world as well.

IT is one of the most challenging and inspiring industries. It’s always exciting and dynamic, where everyday provides an opportunity to learn, to be creative and to improve technical, social and business skills. Software engineering gives a chance to do impressive things in many different fields, since almost every aspect of our lives has become intertwined with technology.

I chose IT at first because of the benefits it provides, but the real strength of this profession is in the intellectual development of the individual. This job shapes us into creative and adaptable people who are not afraid of challenges, and teaches us to look at the problem from multiple angles, making us able to offer more solutions to them.

Azra Alibegovic

Software Developer

I chose to pursue a career in IT because of all the possibilities that this world offers. I have a chance to express myself, my ideas and creativity. Power to create something new makes me so excited and on top of that all I get to learn. I am never bored, everyday is something new, a new challenge, new stuff to learn. Sometimes it is scary when I realize how many things are out there, technologies, languages and etc. that I don’t have a clue about, but the excitement that I will have a chance to learn and work with those is bigger than the fear. Doing this job will never get you in a routine of doing the same, boring and repeating stuff. It is fun and dynamic, that is why I never considered this job only as an everyday.

I wanted to be a programmer before I really knew what a computer was. Now I see it was my best decision. In the world of programming, you can always learn something new. I find it interesting to think up solutions to problems, and when your solution actually works you feel powerful.
